LUMAJANG, R_SEMERU.COM | Batik can remain rooted in tradition while keeping pace with the times. Through creativity in the fashion world, Lumajang's distinctive batik motifs have room to be introduced in more diverse clothing forms that are closer to contemporary community life.
That spirit was evident on the peak night of *BALOS 2026 (Batik Lumajang On The Stage / Batik Lumajang On The Street)* held on Jalan Alun-Alun Utara, Lumajang Regency, on Saturday evening (10/10/2026). Carrying the theme *"Harmony in Heritage, Celebrating Heritage Inspiring Generations"*, the event brought together cultural preservation and modern fashion expression.
Lumajang Regent Indah Amperawati, together with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), attended to witness the event. BALOS serves as a platform to introduce Lumajang batik through fashion shows involving participants from various age groups and community elements.
For the development of regional batik, fashion creativity can be a bridge between traditional values and current needs. Batik motifs are not only preserved as part of cultural heritage, but can also be processed into clothing choices that suit various occasions and wearers' tastes.
Acting Head of the Lumajang Regency Tourism Office, Agni Asmara Megatrah, explained that BALOS 2026 was designed to introduce the richness of Lumajang batik through fashion shows involving various age groups.
The batik fashion competition was attended by participants in the categories of PAUD/KG, elementary school, junior high school, senior high/vocational school, general public, as well as sub-district heads and Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD). The diversity of participants provided space for the public to see batik in various styles and approaches, while expanding recognition of regional cultural products.
Fashion development also opens opportunities for batik artisans and creative actors to explore designs without losing the identity of the motifs used. Collaboration between batik makers, designers, and business actors can be a way to present products that are attractive to consumers while still respecting their cultural roots.
Through BALOS 2026, Lumajang batik is introduced as a heritage that can continue to develop following the creativity of generations. This effort is expected to broaden public appreciation for batik while providing space for local culture-based fashion innovation.
